Creamy Sausage Pasta

You had me at pasta, but also creamy, and just all of it together is the perfect dinner. It has everything your heart desires, comfort, flavor, cheese and pasta. This is a fan favorite in our house. It is my favorite because it is so easy to toss together and it is my families favorite because it is so delicious. It is even toddler approved and that alone makes it the best.

My favorite way to prepare this is in my Dutch oven for the sheer fact that it keeps dishes to a minimal. You can make this in your crockpot if you wish too, you would just need to cook your sausage before adding it to your crockpot and you would also want to cook your noodles separately and then add them in about 30 minutes before serving.

We love this with Italian sausage, but you can use any sausage that you have or desire. I have tried both ways and believe that Italian is the way to go. It gives it a little bit of spice. I also have used tortellini when we have it and that works great too instead of the pasta, we just always have pasta on hand that is why I did this recipe with traditional pasta. As always feel free to experiment and try a different pasta. Just be sure to leave a comment and let us know how it worked!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 3 tsp garlic, minced or garlic salt
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • dash of salt and pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 3 cups uncooked pasta
  • parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In Dutch oven start by browning the Italian sausage. Season with 1 tsp onion powder and 3 tsp garlic.
  2. Once sausage is cooked add 3 Tbsp flour and stir until flour has dissolved.
  3. Add in 1 tsp basil, 1/2 tsp oregano, 1 tsp mustard, salt and pepper and 6 cups chicken broth. Give it a good stir.
  4. Add in 1 cup of milk and 3 cups uncooked pasta. Bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce to a simmer and cover. Be sure to stir every few minutes so your pasta or meat don’t stick to the bottom of your pan.
  6. Let simmer until pasta is cooked. About 12-15 minutes.
  7. Serve hot and top each serving with parmesan cheese.
