Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar
I swear I learn something new every day that apple cider vinegar can be used for! It really can be used for anything from cleaning, to help make you healthier and in your chickens water to make them healthier. I have been wanting to make the switch to homemade apple cider vinegar and I am so glad that I finally did. I would love to make some really big batches but I just don’t have enough apple peels and cores. So, I settle with making what I can with what I have. With how SIMPLE and EASY it is to make I don’t know why I didn’t start doing this sooner! Oh well, better late than never I guess. This is the perfect way to use up apple peels and cores after making applesauce or even an apple pie. Once you are done making the apple cider vinegar you can throw your peels and cores into your compost bin!
Ingredients
- Peels and Cores from 8 Apples
- 1/4 Cup Raw Honey
- 4 Cups of Water
- 1 Quart Mason Jar
- 1 Pint Mason Jar
- 1 Half Pint Mason Jar
Instructions
- First peel core your apples into a bowl.
2. Place apple peels and cores into mason jars.
3. Mix 1/4 honey into 4 cups of water you can use organic cane sugar. The sugar completely dissipates during fermentation.
4. Poor the water and honey mix over peels and cores into mason jars.
5. Fill to brim. Make sure all apple peels and cores are fully sermerged. You do not want mold to form. You can place a smaller jar over top to keep them pushed down.
6. Place towel over the jars and place a rubber band around them.
7. Let sit in a dark cool place for 1 week.
8. Once they have sat for a week remove scum from top of jars and strain out apple peels and cores.
9. Poor liquid into 1 pint mason jar and 1 half pint mason jar.
10. Put lids on tightly.
11. Place back in dark cool place for 6 weeks.
12. Once 6 weeks has passed it is all ready for you to use it for whatever you like!

This is great! I really love apple cider vinegar, but it can be pricey for the good stuff!! I dont think 6 weeks is that long. I have seen other recipes that have you do X for a time, then X for 6 weeks, then X for 5 months!!! (No lie it really said 5 months….). I cant wait to try this out! Thanks for sharing the step by step pictures as well, that is really handy 🙂

I generally pick ACV that says ‘With Mother’ on it. Till today I don’t know what exactly this ‘mother’ thing. If you know can you explain, please? & again I never thought that ACV can be prepared at home. Great work!

Wow! I’ve heard good things about apple cider vinegar. Haven’t used it yet though. Although I am the person who prefers to buy one, thanks for this homemade recipe. I might try doing a homemade version in the future.

I did not know that it was that easy to make apple cider vinegar. To think that I woulx have to wait long when our local grocery runs out of apple cider vinegar.

So I am assuming that this would contain “the Mother” because it is homemade? I always get ACV with the mother in it. This would be a great resource to make my own!

Yes! This does contain the mother! It is only filtered once which keeps the mother!
